Activities at Parkwood Farm and the surrounding area are as varied as your interests and energy level.
You may be inspired by the fabulous views from the cottage to see more. Follow the track up the hill behind the cottage and you will be rewarded with views from the ocean to the alps, this track was built during the depression to keep local men in employment. It is known by mountain bikers as a great day trip from Fairlie , over the hill and then back to Fairlie. A short walk (or drive) to the end of our farm is the Raincliff forest , established in 1890. There are numerous walking tracks through the forest and although not a native forest there are a huge variety of different species, many of them named. Another 5 minutes drive along Middle Valley Road brings you to Pioneer Park , 330 acres of native forest gifted by the locals many years ago to be enjoyed by all. The forest has many well marked walks and the flora and fauna will keep you captivated for hours. 5 minutes down the road from the forest are Maori rock drawing clearly sign posted from the road.
Fairlie is 12 kms from Parkwood, it has a population of approx 700 and is a service town for the surrounding district. There are numerous restaurants and cafes,2 hotels and 2 garages. The supermarket is large and stocked with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. Fairlie has a picturesque golf course, a summer swimming pool, art galleries in nearby Kimbell, a bird hatchery, an alpaca farm plus many more attractions . Not to be missed is the Mackenzie Highland Show every Easter Monday, one of the largest one day shows in New Zealand.

“We are retired Canadians who have been on the road for 6 months. Parkwood has provided us with a place to rest and at the same time learn about life on the farm. We have walked the hills, explored Pioneer Park and learned about sheep dipping and today have watched the shearers at work. Thank you for the opportunity.” Mary and Gary Hiscox- Canada.
